Techniques & Drills for Creating Championship Linebackers

with Mike Tressel,
Michigan State University Linebackers / Special Teams Coach

Coach Mike Tressel presents proven techniques to developing championship-level linebackers in an incredible DVD packed with drills, demonstrations and more. These are the same drills Tressel used to develop two of the top linebackers in the nation in 2010 who combined for 796 tackles in their careers at Michigan State.

Tressel outlines these crucial fundamentals:

  • Stance, Alignment, and Key Reads
  • Block Defeat
  • Proper Tackling
  • Pass Defense
  • Blitz Techniques

In the DVD, Coach Tressel outlines five linebacker fundamentals that will teach your linebackers how proper stance and alignment is vital to getting leverage on the ball carrier and will put your LBs in position to defeat blocks with punch, dip, and rip techniques.

Defeating blocks with the proper leverage allows the inside-out angles to achieve the best tackling opportunities on opposing running backs. Blitzing is a cornerstone of playing linebacker and you will learn about snap indicators and timing keys to help your linebacker make big defensive plays. Linebackers also must cover receivers and this DVD covers how the hook-n-swat technique can help your linebackers as they cover the flats and other zones.

An interesting component of the presentation is Coach Tressel's use of film clips that show how not to execute various techniques. By presenting an ineffective way to cover a drill, Tressel actually underscores the proper way of doing it.

With great enthusiasm and passion, Coach Tressel emphasizes the need to play fast, play to the line of scrimmage and tackle hard.

This DVD is designed to help coaches at all levels teach linebackers the skills needed to achieve success on the field. Whether you're new to the coaching game, need a refresher course or just want to add new techniques to your coaching arsenal, this presentation has something for you.

FD-04496A: with Tim Murphy, Clayton Valley (CA) High School Head Coach;
2012 Division II North Coast CIF Champions; 11 straight years in the playoffs, 3x CIF Champions, 5x CIF Championship appearances, Winningest large high school program in central California this decade

Three-time CIF Champion Tim Murphy has been one of the most successful coaches in the high school ranks in recent years. His defense has been one of the main ingredients for that success while coaching at three different schools. Coach Murphy takes you on an inside look at his relentless swarming defense that has been wreaking havoc upon opponents year in and year out.

Coaches at all levels will instantly get excited about the 4-4 Swarm Defense, not just because Coach Murphy has dominated central California football for the last decade, but because of the simplicity and the ability to get your three most aggressive players to the ball and stuff any offensive run game. He begins by explaining the defense in a PowerPoint discussion before showing you video of the 4-4 Swarm in action. You'll see a defense that:

  • Will adjust to any offensive scheme with its simplicity
  • Linemen that create a moving wall and outside backers that funnel the ball into a 5 yard alley
  • Inside backers that fill in the alley and create turnovers and big hits
  • Defensive backs that will disrupt all phases of the vertical game and become secondary contain players versus the run

The philosophy of the 4-4 Swarm is to condense the ball into a 5 yard alley that allows your free safety and inside linebackers to fill and stop the run for no gain. The defense forces the ball carrier to run horizontal allowing for the Swarm to take effect. Murphy takes an inside look at all the formation adjustments that are made against all personnel groupings. The basic alignment for every position is discussed through various graphics.

Coach Murphy goes into detail with his bounce and attack philosophy vs. the run. Every player is accountable and needs to do their job in order to secure the edge and force all plays into the D gap. He describes each position's responsibilities and flows in order to condense the field and swarm to the ball at a relentless pace. Murphy shows gang tackling at its finest with his philosophical and scheme approach.

Coach Murphy moves into his Disrupt and attack philosophy against the pass. Coach explains his Cage rush scheme he utilizes in the 4-4 scheme and all D-line responsibilities. He finishes his pass attack with his linebacker and secondary responsibilities, and thoroughly explains the passing zones and his various coverage schemes.

Coach Murphy moves through his presentation with various multimedia slides and game clips that help for easy understanding and installation for your team this season. He describes what style player he is looking for at each position in order to help you develop this defense easily.

If you are currently running a 4-4 defense or want to adapt a simple and sound package this video is a must. Defenses win championships, and this defense will help your team establish that championship foundation this season.

2012 Division II North Coast CIF Champions; 11 straight years in the playoffs, 3x CIF Champions, 5x CIF Championship appearances, Winningest large high school program in central California this decade

Tim Murphy delivers a unique version of the 4-4 Defense he calls the "Swarm."

In this DVD he gives an in depth look at the most important aspect of his defense, the slanting play of the defensive line. He teaches the defensive line to create a "moving wall" versus running plays. The Swarm develops as the ball is channeled into a five yard alley between the line and the outside linebacker, who is responsible for contain. Inside linebackers and the free safety fill the alley to stuff any opponent's running game.

Coach Murphy begins by going through all of the responsibilities and reads for his defensive line. He details his stance and alignments for both defensive ends and defensive tackles in order for his players to be successful. The nose will play the weak side A gap while the tackle will shade the guard and defend the B gap strong. The defensive ends align on the last man of the line of scrimmage and control the inside gap which makes the ball bounce to the outside and into the alley.

Coach Murphy moves into the film room with practice footage, and shows drills to help defend various blocks for the interior linemen and defensive ends: How to defeat down, reach, base and pass blocks are all shown as well as the inside and outside pull of the guard. He finishes with game footage to show all of the drills and their application on the field.

If you want to create a solid front line that uses simple techniques to stop the opponent from running the ball, this video is a must. Bring the "moving wall" to your defensive line this season to punish your opponent in the 4-4 Swarm Defense.

2012 Division II North Coast CIF Champions; 11 straight years in the playoffs, 3x CIF Champions, 5x CIF Championship appearances, Winningest large high school program in central California this decade

Tim Murphy puts his most aggressive players at the linebacker position. In the 4-4 Swarm Defense, the linebackers are taught to be fill players, they are 5 yards deep and play at 45 degree angles with the chest over the knees all the way through the play. With simple keys the linebackers will play fast and create big hits and turnovers making the 4-4 Swarm defense stand out from all the rest.

Coach Murphy discusses the responsibilities of his linebackers in the 4-4 Swarm in a powerpoint presentation. In the 4-4 Swarm you will see:

  • How the backer can react in an instant and become a fill player either in the alley or mid-line
  • Lightning quick pass drops and understand the "Rally Zone" concept and when to use a "Jump" call to shut down the quick passing game
  • The all-important "Fill, Scrape, Fill" technique used on inside runs
  • The difference between "Fast-Ball" and "Bounce and Flow" keys

Coach Murphy talks about all the technical body positions you must have within your stance to be successful. He describes the defensive drops for his linebackers in his defense and goes through the various reads and flows needed to be executed by the inside linebacker to create the relentless swarm gang tackling approach, emphasizing the importance of filling to the alley at the proper angles.

The simplicity in the defense is also shown in the linebacker responsibility on a pass play. The defensive zones are labeled A, B, and C and basic landmarks send the backers to a spot on the field where he will defend a 5 yard box on the field. The "Green Light" technique uses the linebacker as a contain player when the quarterback breaks from the pocket.

Using practice footage, Coach Murphy breaks down drills for his read and react series, which teaches the linebacker how to get to the ball almost instantly. He continues with his drill series for pass drops in order to take away underneath routes, which can be open within the scheme. You'll also see his fill scrape and fill drill, which helps reinforce the swarming gang tackle style of defense his 4-4 scheme produces. You'll see how every drill and technique is applied effectively in a game situation.

The concepts Coach Murphy uses in his linebackers in the 4-4 Swarm Defense will help any coach with any defensive scheme become better.

Tim Murphy continues his 4-4 Swarm series with an inside look at the Outside Linebacker and Defensive Back positions in his swarming attack. Coach Murphy uses a multimedia presentation with game and practice footage in order to dissect reads, alignments, and techniques that are vital for defensive success.

Coach Murphy begins with a breakdown of alignments, reads, pass drops, and techniques for the outside linebackers His multimedia slides give a clear and easy explanation for easy implementation. Coach then takes you to the film room for practice footage on drills he uses in order to develop the most discipline players for the outside linebacker position. You will see the all-important key drill that teaches the outside backers how to react to the last man on the line of scrimmage and how his movement tells him what is coming from the offense. He ends with game footage to see how the practice drills transfer to on the field action.

Coach Murphy then breaks into the secondary responsibilities, alignment, technique, and coverages to be successful within his 4-4 defenses. Putting your secondary in position to be discipline and aggressive at the same time, will push your team over the edge this season in the 4-4 Swarm defense. He emphasizes the need for proper alignment and coverage understanding In addition, various coverages and checks are discussed through a multimedia presentation. Murphy takes you to the film room to look over practice footage of drills and then takes them into the game footage to see them executed in a game scenario.

To coaches running the 4-4 defense, this video will make your defense better and help you win that game against your rival.

Rick Stewart uses Power Point, drill walk through, and practice and game footage to teach his stinging 4-2-5 'Gang Green' Multiple Defense that blends the 4-4, 4-2-5 and 3-4 defenses together with simplicity.

Coach Stewart begins by outlining his team's defensive rules, guidelines and philosophies to paint a clear picture for each defensive lineman's role and their importance to the defense. He teaches alignment, including various audible and visual cues you can use to get your players in the right position, while reacting to what is happening in front of them. The alignment and techniques are presented from the defensive end, tackle and nose positions. Stunts such as the slant, crash, pinch and jet are used in addition to others.

See how each individual position in this system is coached in a practice setting using "Every Day Drills." Defensive Ends are taught how to defeat blocks such as the down block, reach block, base block, trap blocks and others. Interior linemen are taught to take on similar blocks, but more emphasis is given to defeating double team blocks and how to play the pulling lineman and schemes. Throughout the video, Stewart emphasizes alignment, gap responsibility and hand placement.

On the field, Stewart uses a step-by-step drill progression to show the fundamental techniques for each position. He also uses game footage to show how all the drills and techniques come together in a game environment.

In addition to the specifics of line play, tackling drills are demonstrated that directly link the techniques used on the line to stop the run.

Defensive line play is extremely important in the game of football. Coach Stewart's teams have set a standard of play that has allowed them to become one of the top teams in the state of California. By stacking your defensive lineman and using these techniques, your defense is sure to make marked improvement for years to come.

In easy to understand terminology, Rick Stewart shows how to develop game-changing inside linebackers in the 'Gang Green' 4-2-5 Multiple Defense, which confuses offenses by combining the 4-4, 3-4, and 4-2-5 with surprising simplicity.

By playing 20 technique linebackers over uncovered guards in all 3 defenses, linebackers are better able to make clean reads and react aggressively. This video will take you through position specific drills and explain how the inside linebackers fit into the overall scheme of this defense.

Through PowerPoint diagrams, practice demonstrations and game footage - with both end zone and sideline angles - you will learn the proper coaching points and practice drills that will allow your inside linebackers to play fast and aggressive.

In the first segment, Coach Stewart discusses the difference between fast and tough run fits. He diagrams his daily window drills with six different run fits that teach linebackers how to effectively read guards and react instinctively to offensive line blocking schemes. The team run fits for fast flow, split flow and counter flow are also discussed to provide a big picture view of inside linebacker in this scheme.

In the second segment, Stewart diagrams and shows tackling drills that specifically reinforce techniques for inside linebackers.

The third segment covers pass drops and blitz schemes utilized in the 4-2-5, 4-4, and 3-4 defenses. In the final segment it is all brought together with game footage from both the sideline and end zone angles to demonstrate how effective this method has been for Coach Stewart.

This video is ideal both for coaches looking to adopt a new defensive scheme and coaches wanting to improve the play of their inside linebackers in any 4-2-5, 3-4 or 4-4 defense.

These drills and techniques will help you develop the complete inside linebacker that plays fast and aggressive.

Took three losing programs to playoffs. Led Porterville to four straight playoff appearances, back-to-back section championship appearances.

Build a multiple defense using the principles of the 4-2-5, 4-4 and 3-4 defenses to dominate opponents.

Rick Stewart has put together a very detailed video that will help any defense. He demonstrates how to build this system with simple alignment rules and limited assignment changes for his defensive backs and outside linebackers. You will never have to change the alignment, read, or run fit of your two inside linebackers.

Throughout the video, Coach Stewart discusses using cover 2, 3, and 4, with cloud and sky concepts. His whiteboard descriptions explain the differences in each coverage and how to use all of them with limited changes for the outside linebackers and defensive backs. He dedicates a great deal of discussion to route combinations and how they are handled in each coverage. He also includes detailed description of run fits and technique that are interchangeable between coverage schemes.

After his description of each coverage, the focus turns to individual technique and drills. As Stewart points out, his playbook determines the drills. Every drill is designed to simulate game situations seen in their multiple defensive looks. You will see whiteboard diagrams and descriptions of four drills for his backpedal progression, five tackling drills used for the defensive backs, and seven coverage drills for 1-,3-, and 5-step routes. Also covered are specific drills for the outside linebackers that concentrate on defeating four types of blocks, pass coverage and tackling. The whiteboard session is followed with on-field video of players executing each drill.

Stewart also covers group pursuit drills that are done in group sessions with only the defensive backs and outside linebackers. Using this system, your team will embody the motto, "eleven helmets, one poor soul".

This multiple defense allows for a simplistic approach to a system that will seem complex to your opponent. Your team will spend time mastering simple assignments while your opponent spends time preparing for multiple defensive strategies.

The mastermind of the triple option offense at Georgia Southern, Navy, and currently Georgia Tech, Coach Paul Johnson explains the Triple Option, the Triple Option Load, and the play action passing game off of the triple option look. While at Georgia Tech, he has been one of the leaders in the nation in rushing year in and out, while producing such NFL wide receivers as Calvin Johnson and Demarius Thomas.

In this DVD, Coach Johnson gives an in depth analysis of the triple option. He discusses rules of every position, and how to attack defenses. He thoroughly addresses the 4-3 both over and under, 3-4, and 3-3 stack amongst others. Coach gives great insight on attacking the different defenses, figuring out what they are trying ot do to stop the triple option, and counter moves to attack and be successful.

Coach Johnson coaches you up using game footage of the powerful option offense. He diagrams and discusses the blocking rules versus all defenses and discusses defensive tactics used to stop his offense and what adjustments he uses to defeat any defensive set. Johnson discusses the alignment of the "A & B" backs as well as motion and attack rules. The quarterback in the option is trained to read 1 and pitch the ball off of number 2. The B back will align his heels at 5 yards and explode to the line of scrimmage reading the first down lineman inside the quarterbacks' key. You'll also see "the load," which is an adjustment off the basic triple option, with its advantages and when and how to use it for optimum success in the game.

The next segment of the video is a talk about the play action passing game that is based on the triple option. Coach Johnson explains how he simplifies the play-action pass for the offensive line and sells the triple option run game, which includes his rules and disguises to mesh your run game and play action passing game. He emphasizes the fact that his offense will hit a big pass play at some point in the game based on the emphasis teams must place on stopping their running attack.

As a bonus, Johnson answers questions and points out key concepts in running the flexbone at the high school level.

Whether you are currently running the triple option and want to learn more or have to defend it and want to understand how the offense works, this video is a must. with Steve Greatwood,
University of Oregon Offensive Line Coach;

Have you wondered how the Oregon offense can line up and come off the ball so quickly and run the ball so effectively? Join longtime Oregon Coach Steve Greatwood as he discusses the concepts and techniques that have made Oregon's Inside and Outside Zone play so successful.

In this DVD, he will explain how to:

  • Streamline the communication up front when running an up-tempo offense
  • Identify the defensive front in the blink of an eye
  • Teach zone blocking technique whether covered or uncovered
  • Identify a "point" defender and work simple line rules off of his alignment
The incredibly fast tempo of the Oregon offense puts enormous pressure on the defense. In a clinic setting, Coach Greatwood teaches the inside and outside zone concepts of the devastating Duck ground attack. The key to the zone running attack is the call from the center identifying the "point" defender; everyone else works from the center's call. You'll learn the "red" call, which identifies the three-technique side of the defense and the "white" call, which is used when there is a guard bubble. Using this information, the zone play may be run to a particular color as the entire line works together as one unit.

Coach Greatwood shares blocking rules for various defensive fronts, including the odd man front, the odd stack or 3-3 defense, and the "bear" front. Greatwood also explains the differences between inside and outside zone plays. Game footage is coached up as Greatwood covers the calls and techniques of each lineman giving you an opportunity to see how everything ties together.

Whether you are using an athletic quarterback and reading zone, running zone with fast screen concepts or blocking backside, this DVD is a must have.

Pat Narduzzi has elevated Michigan State's defense to one of the top run-stopping units in the country. Using their base over defense, Michigan State's defense allowed only one 100-yard rusher the entire 2010 season.

In this DVD, Narduzzi outlines his philosophy and principles for stopping the run by using a simple base defense. His "chalkboard" discussion shows how to keep it simple, which allows the defense to play fast and physical.

He demonstrates how using the over front gets nine men in the box, allows linebackers to run to the ball, and easily adjusts to any offensive scheme. With simple front adjustments, your opponent's favorite run plays can be stuffed at the line of scrimmage.

Narduzzi uses game footage to show how Michigan State's defense "builds a wall" at the line of scrimmage to stop the run. The sideline and end zone clips give you a great visual of how this defense allows for aggressive play while maintaining gap integrity.

The 4-3 over defense presented by Coach Narduzzi is sound against any scheme, easy to learn, and will no doubt allow your defense to play fast and physical.

Tim Murphy has a long history of creating great running football teams. As defenses have evolved, he has fine tuned the double wing to ensure success. Murphy has added the shotgun to the double wing and given the quarterback both passing and zone read options.

Defenders are now tasked with stopping a devastating run game and an expanded passing game.

Coach Murphy gives you a comprehensive look at the essentials you need to understand and run the shotgun double wing as your offense. He discusses the philosophy behind the system, describes the key traits that make each position in the offense successful, and how to identify the best player suited for each position. You will learn where to put your most athletic kid, your biggest kid, smallest kid, weakest kid and most athletic linemen.

As a dynamic offense, you must be able to show different offensive sets. Coach Murphy delivers eight formations off of his base set which will allow you to transition from one set to the next and stress the defense to the point of failure. He shows you the Pro, Twins, Trips, Ram, Lion, Over, Under, and Eagle, which is his direct snap to the tailback formation. Expand your playbook and make your offense more effective without forcing your players to learn new plays.

A simple numbering system is explained that coaches can easily incorporate in their offense. Coach Murphy discusses key indicators that need to be watched and identified during games such as whether defenders are penetrators or readers. He then spends time explaining how he attacks different defenses, and he discusses what defenses might do to stop the double wing.

Coach Murphy goes into detail about the execution of the 14 different blocks that are vital to the success of the offense. He uses a dry erase board to help explain the different blocks that each lineman needs to execute, and has each block named so that a player knows exactly how to execute it. You will learn blocking techniques such as the Skip Block, which is the newest and latest technique used by NFL teams, the Tunnel Block, Down and Wheel Block, Log Block, Post Block, and Reach Block.

He explains how assistant coaches are an integral part of his play calling process and how to use them to the team's advantage. You'll also see practice footage to gain an understanding of how Coach Murphy practices his offense.

As defenses evolve to defend today's spread offenses, the double wing offers a unique challenge with its physical between-the-tackles style of football. Tim Murphy's Power Series gives you multiple blockers at the point of attack and constant pounding that will eventually wear down the defense changing three yard gains into 30 yard gains.

The Power Series is an effective way to block and neutralize the defensive end and render a superior athlete a non-factor. Coach Murphy breaks down the many different blocking schemes that will wreck odd and even defensive fronts. He uses both the shotgun and zone type reads to take the double wing to new levels.

Murphy delivers a look at the power series versus a 4-3 and 5-2 defense. Defensive lines that squeeze as well as run up field are addressed as he explains the blocking rules for each play, as well as the blocking rules and techniques for each player.

Included is 24 Power, 26 Power, Over 24 Power, and 24 Power Shuffle Pass. In addition, you'll learn how to use multiple formations such as eagle, pro and twins to give the defense different looks and still run your power play. Coach uses practice film to help illustrate how the offense blocks the power play, and he uses a dry erase board to help explain the play to the viewer.

Coach Murphy shows three plays that will allow you to use your quarterback as the power back. These plays turn your quarterback into a running threat, forcing the defense to prepare for another athlete running the ball. He also shows a great shovel pass that can incorporated into the offense while using the power play blocking scheme.

You will see how defenses try to stop the power play and how to attack those schemes with motion and formations.

Use your power game like a jab punch throughout the game that will lead to a knockout in the fourth quarter!

The inside run game can get you quick yards, set up your pass game, and protect your off-tackle and outside plays. When teams want to load up to stop your power, you can counter with the trap, tackle trap or draw.

Tim Murphy presents a detailed look on how to develop the inside run game out of the shotgun double wing offense. The inside run game is the base of this system and will open up the rest of the offense.

Trap plays can pop for big yardage when the defense is trying to stop your power and outside plays. Coach Murphy breaks down blocking schemes against a 4-3 and 5-2 defensive front. He gives instruction on:

  • 21 Trap - Provides the trap block plus the lead block by the fullback.
  • 20 Trap - Delivers a trap block with the tackle leading through the hole.
  • Tackle Trap - The tackle trap play has an element of surprise built into it; a direct snap to the fullback with crisscross action behind it.
  • Wedge Play - Use in short yardage situations against any defense.
Coach Murphy designs each inside run play on the whiteboard and explains the blocking rules for every lineman. Multiple cross blocks on the line of scrimmage make reading this play difficult for defenders. You'll learn how to teach proper center technique to keep "bear crawling defenders" from stopping your wedge play. He also explains the motion and technique for all the running backs and receivers.

After each play, practice video is used to show you how the play is administered in a practice setting. Each play is run versus defenders with both a press box and end zone view.

Coach Murphy ends the video with instruction on the Trap Pass - the perfect complement to the inside Trap Game. The Trap Pass uses maximum pass protection but also gives the quarterback the option to run. You'll see several play action passes that can be very effective when a defense is selling out to stop the run. He also shows how the Pro Draw will set up complimentary pass plays later in the game.

FD-04224D: with Tim Murphy, Clayton Valley (CA) High School Head Coach; 2012 Division II North Coast CIF Champions; In 2012 ranked first in the state of California (DII) in scoring (54 ppg); total yards (over 500 ypg) and rushing (over 400 ypg); During his 13 years of running the Double Wing Offense, Murphy has won four CIF titles, 10 league championships and has been ranked in the Top 50 in the nation three times!

Tim Murphy teaches what he calls the most dynamic series of his offense - the outside run game.

Coach Murphy's vast experience with the double wing gives him a great understanding of what plays complement the offense. In this detailed DVD, he explains how he attacks the perimeter with the outside run game out of the double wing offense.

A successful offense strives to control the perimeter of the defense, and Coach Murphy provides plays and adjustments you can use to get the ball to the perimeter. Murphy discusses:

  • The Trojan Series - Get the ball to the perimeter with a lot of lead blockers to outnumber the defense - similar to the old USC student body play.
  • Rocket Sweep - This quick, outside play has a great scheme with the front side pulling and reaching, and the backside pulling to influence the defense. Wing-T coaches will love this play - it's like the quick pitch with motion.
Coach Murphy shows different ways the fullback and the guards can provide false keys to deliver an effective running play. These false keys will hinder how aggressively the defense can play and prevent linebackers from successfully keying on guards and running backs. He shows different ways to get the ball into the hands of your playmakers without adjusting your blocking scheme. Murphy also gives his thoughts how you can tailor your offense to your personnel.

His whiteboard explanations and practice footage of each play will help any coach install the outside run series. By drawing each play against both odd and even fronts he offers solutions for most challenges encountered by offensive coordinators running the hybrid double wing.

This well-orchestrated outside run attack will dissect and conquer your opponent, leaving the opposition in a wake of offensive destruction.

FD-04224E: with Tim Murphy, Clayton Valley (CA) High School Head Coach; 2012 Division II North Coast CIF Champions; In 2012 ranked first in the state of California (DII) in scoring (54 ppg); total yards (over 500 ypg) and rushing (over 400 ypg); During his 13 years of running the Double Wing Offense, Murphy has won four CIF titles, 10 league championships and has been ranked in the Top 50 in the nation three times!

Catch your opponent off guard and neutralize a fast attacking defense with an effective counter game.

Tim Murphy's counter series offers an excellent change up for teams who are running power plays with success and seeing the defense taking chances to get back in the game.

The counter will freeze the feet of high octane athletes who want blow up your precision timed offense.

Using a marker board, Coach Murphy draws out each play against both the 4-3 and 5-2 defenses, complete with blocking assignments and rules for each play to highlight the nuances of blocking against even and odd fronts. After diagramming each play he shows how the play is run through practice video. Each play is viewed from the press box and from the end zone.

Coach Murphy shows variations of the counter that will get the ball to different playmakers while running the counter play. These variations start out looking like one play and then transform into a two-headed monster. The more looks you have the more deception you have offensively. This puts the defense on their heels and destroys any rhythm to make plays.

You'll also learn how you can add a shovel pass to the counter run blocking scheme. The shovel play is very deceptive and the defense can't help but key on your tailback's movement. The movement of the tailback and quarterback will act as blockers by freezing defenders. The wing gets mixed in the trash as he moves along the line of scrimmage and receives a pass from the quarterback. The wing hits his point of attack leaving the defense in his wake. This can make your offense very versatile while not using extra teaching time to teach the play.

Whether you run the double wing offense or not, Coach Murphy's instruction will help you implement and use counter plays to create big play opportunities.

FD-04224F: with Tim Murphy, Clayton Valley (CA) High School Head Coach; 2012 Division II North Coast CIF Champions; In 2012 ranked first in the state of California (DII) in scoring (54 ppg); total yards (over 500 ypg) and rushing (over 400 ypg); During his 13 years of running the Double Wing Offense, Murphy has won four CIF titles, 10 league championships and has been ranked in the Top 50 in the nation three times!

Tim Murphy's understanding of the run game makes his pass game devastating. As defenses try to stop the power game they struggle to prepare for the pass. The Shotgun Double Wing opens up the passing game by allowing routes to develop, letting your quarterback see the field and providing deeper routes.

Make defenses cover the width of the field using:

  • Trap Pass - A one man route can be a game changer. Murphy gives you three plays off the trap look. These plays are used when the defense is trying to sneak up and stop your run. This pass play provides your tight ends a variety of routes to choose from without showing any tendencies. The defense will not be clued in by formation. You will learn pass patterns to exploit Cover 2 and 3 for huge, game breaking plays.
  • Power Series Passing Game - Since power is the base play of the whole offense, the power play action pass must be a staple of your offense. A two-man route that gives your quarterback choices to throw to downfield, the Power Series is an ideal way to use your fleet-footed quarterback to blow up defenses schemes with his electric feet. The defense will be fooled into thinking run and will be completely out of position for this explosive play.
  • Sprint Passing Game - Provide your quarterback plenty of depth to buy time and survey the field. Every lineman in this play takes a three step Trojan pull then turns to protect backside away from the rolling out quarterback. You get a flood concept from your receivers giving your quarterback three throwing options to throw to and, as he's rolling out, he is a threat to run, putting the defense in breakdown mode. You will see a variety of pass patterns to manipulate the most disciplined defenses.
  • To finish the video Coach Murphy delivers several plays to add to your passing arsenal; sprint pass throwback, joker pass, joker pass zip and jailbreak. You'll also get an effective screen pass to help negate a strong pass rush.

Many of the pass plays offered have optional routes. This allows receivers to read the defensive backfield and decide on the best route. Passing from the shotgun allows the quarterback to see the field better and allows the offense to set his passing pocket in different locations.

Adding a potent passing game to your double wing will make it all the more lethal!

with Steve Greatwood,
University of Oregon Assistant Head Coach - Running Game Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach

Steve Greatwood is one of the top offensive line coaches in the nation. In this instructional video, Coach Greatwood shares the entire offensive line drill package that makes the Oregon offense unstoppable.

Using practice video, Coach Greatwood presents drills for individual blocks, double teams, zone plays and pass protection. Each drill is covered in detail, which helps you to see both good and bad techniques so you will know what to look for when teaching the drills to ensure successful implementation.

The Oregon offense pressures every defense with its incredible fast-paced tempo. Coach Greatwood shows you the drills that make that possible, starting with rabbit drills to develop speed and balance and sled drills to develop power and explosiveness. He also shares a boards and chutes drill series to develop footwork, hand placement and pad level, and shows how to train linemen to finish a block.

A common problem for many offenses is how to stop the opponent from setting an edge on defense. Coach Greatwood has an answer for that. Using a point-by-point teaching method, he demonstrates how to use the Bracer Skip Step (aka Shuffle Drive Step) to neutralize a defensive player who sets up a step or two to the outside

Coach Greatwood also shares the "gallop" technique used on double teams as well as pulling drills to get linemen on second-level defenders. In the "Skip Pull" drill, linemen execute a pull around technique to get to a linebacker place side. He also covers his PODS drill working three linemen together with the tight ends as they pick up slants, angles and blitzes when running the zone play.

Multiple drills for developing pass protection are also shown making this one of the most complete drill packages available.

Coach Greatwood shares a repertoire of drills designed to develop players into outstanding prospects at the next level.

former CSU-Pueblo Assistant Coach/Offensive Line Coordinator;
helped turn around an offensive unit that ranked in the bottom 10 nationally in rushing yards in 2008 into the nation's 14th-best running attack in 2009

There is a misconception that a zone team is a "finesse" team. However, a zone offensive scheme can be physical as well. Chris Symington uses a white board and game film examples to teach simple rules for inside and outside zone plays. Learn how to develop physical players who can demonstrate the patience required to run an effective zone scheme.

Coach Symington begins with an in-depth discussion of the inside zone. He covers rules, techniques and drills before moving on to the fundamentals of zone blocking. Learn how to use the proper footwork to achieve offensive line cohesion. By taking the proper steps as a group, linemen will promote defensive "distortion," which allows the running back to easily find a seam.

Coach Symington illustrates the interplay between a covered offensive lineman or "lead" and an uncovered offensive lineman or "trail." He provides a thorough explanation of how the rules and steps of both contribute to successful zone play.

Also covered in this DVD is the outside zone. Coach Symington goes into great detail, again using rules, techniques and drills. He illustrates the split side zone and the toss play that have contributed to CSU-Pueblo's reputation as one of the nation's best producers of offensive linemen and running backs.

Whether you're experienced in zone play, just beginning or somewhere in the middle, this DVD will provide tips, ideas and drills to improve your scheme.

FD-04403E: with Daren Wilkinson,
CSU-Pueblo Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach, 2014 NCAA D-II National Champions

Offensive Coordinator Darren Wilkinson has created a detailed, yet simple-to-teach passing game system as a part of his offense at Colorado State University-Pueblo. In addition to providing a walk through of a play action, quick, and drop back passing play and their protections, Coach Wilkinson demonstrates how he uses video game technology to teach skill players the various elements of his offense.

Coach Wilkinson provides a detailed explanation of three key plays in the ThunderWolf passing attack:

  • Saturn - a high percentage play action passing play that's good against any coverage
  • Stick - a quick passing game play that will flood the playside and give your quarterback an easy read to key
  • Packer - a drop back passing play that can explode for huge yardage regardless of the coverage
Coach Wilkinson covers each play, position-by-position, including the wide receivers, running backs, and quarterbacks and how they're taught to run each play.

He coaches a "closed" and "open" read for the quarterback that enhances decision making and results in a higher completion rate. Wilkerson shows how his players have learned to "shave" the speed out so defenders can't undercut the route for an easy interception.

Also included is a separate explanation on pass protections for each of the plays. Wilkerson covers the intricacies of each protection against both odd and even fronts and how the protection fits the route package.

With the use of a Playstation, CoachWilkerson demonstrates how he uses video game technology to instill his formations and pass plays. He shows how he uses this technology to quiz his quarterbacks in their position meetings and how each one gets an incredible number of "mental reps" by simply playing a game.

Wilkinson is an experienced coach who is a master teacher when it comes to the offensive passing game. His explanations and creative use of technology will surely help any offensive coordinator better develop faster-thinking, smarter football players.

FD-04403A: with Paul Creighton, UC-Davis Assistant Coach;
former Colorado State University-Pueblo Assistant Coach/Defensive Line;
In 2012, CSU-Pueblo ranked in the Top 20 nationally for rush defense, allowing just 108 yards per game and only eight rushing touchdowns

Paul Creighton has led the Colorado State-Pueblo defensive line attack to back-to-back Top 20 national rankings in rush defense. In this video, Coach Creighton gives an in-depth look at his defensive line development, including philosophy, fundamentals and video examples of drills that will create aggressive, attacking two-way defensive linemen.

In this 3-4 defense, Coach Creighton's players align head-up to create a "two-way go." He teaches his players how to read and destruct blocks, explaining his strategy from philosophy through execution. He does a great job of explaining the reasons why you should or shouldn't do certain things in this defense. Although Coach Creighton's defensive line scheme is quite unique, there are many elements of it that can be used in any scheme you might play.

In the fundamentals section of the video, he teaches the stance footwork and strike that create dominant defensive linemen. He covers:

  • The "AAKTF" (Alignment, Assignment, Key, Technique and Finish) thought process for defensive linemen. Creighton explains each component in detail and gives drills to become more efficient in each aspect. A player who understands the "AAKTF" thought process is more likely to play faster with less thinking. This process can be applied to all positions on the field.
  • How to use the proper footwork, most importantly the first two steps, to be an effective defensive lineman. Taking the proper first two steps allows defensive linemen to keep their hips square at the line of scrimmage and maintain leverage throughout the play. As Coach Creighton points out, "most battles up front are won in the first two steps."
  • How to properly strike the offensive linemen with great hand position and placement. This gives the player the opportunity to create separation and find the ball carrier.
  • The importance of understanding how to read your key. Reacting quickly and properly to your key is vital to the success of the play. Coach Creighton thoroughly explains the difference between an aggressive block, non-aggressive block, and a pass set.
Train your line to attack before reacting and force your opponent out of their offensive game plan.

  • Four types of pursuit and proper keys for linebacker play in the 3-4 defense
  • Eight everyday drills that teach proper footwork and taking-on and coming-off of blocks
  • Open field and goal line tackling drills that force players to be physical and use correct technique
  • Tips on how to "play fast" and attack the line of scrimmage through any "open windows" that may appear
Coach Hughes explains the one gap structure of the Thunder Wolves defense and the philosophy behind it. In addition to proper footwork, he discusses the importance of understanding flow to and from the player, as well as inside and outside threats. Hughes explains the importance of coaching linebackers to play deep, move down hill and attack the ball carrier inside/out with the shoulders square to the line of scrimmage.

Using game footage, Hughes explains all of the reads linebackers will see in a game. He also covers communication between linebackers and how it can be used to "play fast."

Any coach running the 3-4-including those who coach eight-player teams-will benefit from the instruction contained in this informative DVD.

Your defense can achieve the next level of competitive play; let Hunter Hughes show you how!

Took three losing programs to playoffs. Led Porterville to four straight playoff appearances, back-to-back section championship appearances.

Rick Stewart reveals his plan for everything a coach will need to build a championship program - from player discipline, practice formats, and fund raising ideas to improving relations within the school and in the community.

In this video, Coach Stewart clearly demonstrates why it is important for coaches to "shift from X's and O's to psychology."

Coach Stewart delivers a vast amount of football knowledge pertaining to running a football program. He explains how psychology and working with players, parents and all stakeholders is the key to building a great football program. The blueprint to a championship program is a process that builds upon player development and less on coaching X's and O's. There are three phases to Coach Stewart's plan:

  • See It - Paint a vision for your players, coaches, and community.
  • Believe It - Once everyone believes, it's time to build the program.
  • Achieve It - Take it to the field; learn to hate to lose and compete in everything, which will help your players learn how to win.
Coach Stewart goes into detail about steps any coach can take to get through these phases with their players. He covers:
  • How you deal with a summer program when you first take over as the coach.
  • What he expects from his staff and the importance of the staff being positive role models for the players.
  • The importance of instilling discipline into a program - even if you meet some initial resistance.
  • How to gain trust and support in the most difficult circumstances.
  • How to handle difficult parents.
  • How to establish a communication plan that keeps everyone aware of what is going on with the program.
  • How to develop an alumni database to help with fundraisers and events.
  • Ways to include the school faculty in your program.
  • And many more!
Coach Stewart gives a monthly calendar that will give you a good idea of how to organize an entire year for your football program.

FD-03664A: with Rob Manchester,
Georgia Military College Defensive Coordinator

Rob Manchester has served on the GMC defensive coaching staff since 2003, serving as defensive coordinator since 2007. In seven seasons (2003-09), GMC has been a top five ranked defense four times, including #2 overall in 2007; and led the country in rush defense in 2004 and 2007. Manchester's defense helped GMC to the the NJCAA National Runner-up in 2005.

Use the 3-5-3 to match up with any offense; spread, power game and more.

In 2004, Georgia Military launched its wildly popular video series "Encyclopedia of the 3-5-3 Defense." Since then, the Bulldogs have re-invented their vaunted defense to better match up with today's offenses, to counter adjustments offenses have made to attack the 3-5-3 and to simplify the defense for their athletes.

The biggest change you will see is the ends are now in a five technique and getting out and running to the ball. This change stops the ends from getting clogged up in the middle. In addition, the ends take the dive action, which frees up the second level to make the QB in the zone read schemes.

This defense is designed to stop the run first. However, it has different coverages and front packages so that you can bring pressure in a variety of ways and can blitz either 3, 4, 5 or 6 players on any snap. The speed you can put on the field will allow you to match up with any offense style and stop any run.

Manchester talks you thru game film showing Georgia Military's base, solid, under, tuff and heads alignments versus different formations. The different defensive front packages force the offense to form new blocking rules. The defense does not cover the offensive guards, which creates a "what if" mentality because they have to account for all five players on the second level.

Manchester includes a review of the personnel needed to run the 3-5-3 Defense. He explains traits to look for in each position to help you set up your defense.

Take a fresh look at the 3-5-3 defense today!

Overwhelm your opponent's offense with these easy to teach blitz packages.

Rob Manchester has been the Defensive Coordinator at Georgia Military College since 2007. During this time the Bulldogs have earned the reputation as having one of the best defenses in the NJCAA while running the 3-5-3 defense.

This video takes Coach Manchester's years of experience in the 3-5-3 and makes it easy to understand and install with your own players.

  • This DVD contains over 25 blitzes and provides a packaging system to help eliminate doubt and confusion for your defenders. These blitz packages will force opposing offensive coordinators to spend additional practice time prepping for your defense.
  • If you run the 3-5-3, this video will help simplify your system and provide defenders with word recognition to help them play faster and without hesitation.
  • This blitz package keeps offenses guessing because there are always defenders coming; the offense just doesn't know from where.
  • Manchester's system allows his players to play faster knowing the full blitz responsibility before the offense is even set.

Every blitz is shown in diagram format, followed by a wide and end-zone video clip. Throughout, Manchester teaches you how to most effectively run the blitz and what mistakes to avoid.

If you have struggled making terminology in your blitz package easy to understand, Manchester has the answer for you.

This is the most up to date DVD of its kind that goes into such detail and makes so much sense when it comes the blitzing from the 3-5-3 defense.

Rob Manchester delivers seven man coverages that you can add to your 3-5-3 Defense. These man schemes can compliment your zone coverages by allowing you to switch back-and-forth based on the flow of the offense. These coverages also allow you to keep the same blitz package, giving you multiple looks that will cause confusion for the opposing offense.

These man coverage packages feature multiple back and under coverages. Manchester has simplified the calls used to identify the schemes to make it easier for the players to learn and implement on game day, which minimizes the margin of error. Manchester shares this system with you so you can incorporate it into your system.

Packages consist of three true man free concepts and four zero man concepts:

  • Cover Deuce - 4 man pressure perfect for first down and long distance situations versus pass as it gives you another guy underneath for coverage.
  • Cover 1 - Similar to Cover Deuce, it's a true 3-man free cover with a 5-man pressure except the non-blitzing linebacker has to cover the running back. Includes adjustments for motion to doubles and trips formations.
  • Cover 1 Fly - Same as Cover 1, but you make an adjustment when you get a trips formation. Great coverage to defend bunch sets, rub routes and wide receiver screens as it always allows you to have a free safety over top.
  • Cover 0 - Both outside guys are blitzing off the edge, only run vs. a 2-back formation. Three linebackers are in charge of two backs, with the remaining linebacker left under.
  • Cover Black - A 5-man pressure package that leaves no defenders deep. Two linebackers remain to help with the third receiver.
  • Cover Brown - This is a 6-man pressure package, leaving one linebacker to cover the running back.
  • Cover Blue - This is a 6-man pressure in which the free safety has the running back/third receiver.

Every coverage is shown in diagram format, followed by a wide and end-zone video clips. Manchester breaks down each coverage making it easy for you to understand how to use multiple coverages on the back end while remaining simple up front. Each coverage includes adjustments for motion to double and vs trips formations. You also get various looks versus multiple offensive formations, including doubles and trips look.

A great compliment to Manchester's 3-5-3 Blitz package and Zone Coverage DVDs.

Rob Manchester gives you five zone coverages that you can add to your 3-5-3 Defense. These zone schemes will compliment your man coverages to allow you to change back-and-forth based on the flow of the offense. These coverages also allow you to keep the same blitz package, giving you multiple looks that will cause confusion and force the quarterback to make quick reads that can lead to interceptions.

Manchester, with his years of experience and success in the 3-5-3, takes you through a detailed breakdown of five zone coverages.

  • Cover Gray - A 3-deep with 4-under coverage that is only run with 4-man pressure. Will allow you to cheat on any route in the flat.
  • Cover Green - A 5-man pressure package with a 3-under, 3-deep look. Forces QB to make a quick read/pass.
  • Cover Red - A rotating defense with three defensive backs where the free safety replaces the blitzing linebacker.
  • Cover Orange - Quarters coverage (four deep zone coverage) that works well against spread formation to defeat the four vertical package. Can be run versus any pro or doubles formation.
  • Cover Gold - A rotating defense with the corners and safety playing the deep middle.
  • Every coverage is shown in diagram format, followed by a wide and end-zone video clip. Throughout the video review, Manchester breaks down each coverage making it easy for you to understand how to use multiple coverages on the back end while remaining simple up front. You also get various looks versus multiple offensive formations, including doubles and trips looks.

    FD-03953B: with Kirk McBride,
Coppel (TX) High School Assistant Coach/Linebackers

Kirk McBride provides an in-depth study of how to teach linebacker play within the 3-4 defensive scheme.

Using whiteboard diagrams and on the field demonstration, Coach McBride gives you eight drills you can incorporate into your daily practice routine that will teach your linebackers to get to the football quickly and consistently.

The first set of drills show proper power angles and stance and start techniques that demonstrate the importance of a balanced linebacker. The next four drills teach linebackers how to read four different types of flow, establish mesh, and how to work inside out when approaching the ball carrier with leverage.

McBride includes Scrape and Flow drills to teach your linebackers how to gain leverage and attack the flow of a offense, which even includes a variation for taking on cut blocks. McBride takes an extra step to help you see the results of these drills and techniques on the playing field through actual game footage.

Tough, sound, and fast linebacker play is essential in the 3-4 defense and with these techniques your players will learn to take the drill to the field in the same fashion presented in this video.

Inside Linebacker Technique and Drills for the Multiple 3-4 Defense is a great compliment to Coach Fex's other DVD's on the Multiple 3-4 Defense. It is also a great stand alone DVD for any coach in any defensive system.

Outside Linebackers are a combination of a safety's speed, defensive lineman's size, and a middle linebacker's attack mentality.

In this detailed instructional football DVD, Coppell High School's Outside Linebackers Coach Mike DeWitt, presents essential techniques and 10 key drills to help create a high caliber outside linebacker.

Coach Dewitt's drills will show you:

    • How to attack a blocker to better gain outside leverage to defend the outside and reduce the C gap seam.
    • How to shed the trap block and still be in position to make the tackle in the backfield on a bouncing RB.
    • How to look through offensive lineman to back read and maintain position for cut back while not creating a running seam for the RB.
    • How to fight a crack back block and maintain outside leverage to defend the outside run.
    • How to redirect a receiver moving though your box and zone to make it tougher on the QBs timing.
Outside Lineback Technique and Drills for the Multiple 3-4 Defense is a great compliment to Coach Fex's other DVD's on the Multiple 3-4 Defense. Even if you are not running the 3-4 defense, the outside linebacker fundamentals and techniques presented are relevant for any defense that wants to build championship outside linebackers.

Your defensive backfield must include more than just pass defenders. They must be able to transition from pass defense into run defense quickly. Steve Fex clearly describes the specific techniques and drills needed to develop physical cornerbacks and safeties in the 3-4 Defense. Using PowerPoint, drills filmed in practice, and actual game film, Coach Fex delivers a clear understanding of what is needed to coach defensive backs.

These drills and techniques are primarily built around Cover 2 coverage but Fex also describes how they fit into a Cover 3.

The Cornerback in the Multiple 3-4 Defense
Fex demonstrates 10 drills that are important for all cornerbacks. He uses practice film to demonstrate his teaching progression that will improve your DBs ability to change direction, get off blocks, play the ball in the air, and attack the ball carrier.

The Safety in the Multiple 3-4 Defense
Learn five drills that lay the foundation for great safety play in the 3-4 defense. These drills work on backpedal, defeating stalk blocks, tackling technique, route disruption and rolling your coverage. With these few simple drills your players will develop all the skills required to make plays on game day.

One of the key drills in this video is the One High Safety Drill. Fex shows you the keys to shifting at the snap from a two high safety look into a one high safety coverage. This transition will allow your secondary to give the same two high safety look on every down and then roll your coverage on the snap to confuse your opponent.

Fex finishes the video with his "UP" tackling philosophy, which stresses the key factors in becoming a good tackler. His UP tackling progression concentrates on; eyes UP, chest UP, club UP & speed UP. You can improve tackling and reduce injuries with this simple UP tackling philosophy.

Defensive Back Technique and Drills for the Multiple 3-4 Defense is a great compliment to Coach Fex's other DVD's on the Multiple 3-4 Defense. It is also a great stand alone DVD to all coaches for many other defensive systems.

Chris Ash's philosophy behind the 4-3 Defense can be summed up in one word--Aggressive. In this overview of the 4-3, you get the basic formations, alignments and coverages of the defense that helped lead Wisconsin to the Rose Bowl and a share of the 2010 Big Ten Championship.

Ash describes the importance of being aggressive and hustling on every single play with a simple phrase--"Put the Ball Down." It is an attitude and mindset that dictates a readiness to play against anyone, anywhere at any time, no matter what the game situation.

This 4-3 Defense is zeroes in on five objectives:

    • Keep the opponent off the scoreboard.
    • We will stop the run. Make the offense one dimensional.
    • Must minimize big plays.
    • Must be great tacklers.
    • Create takeaways and score. It's all about the ball.
Using an in-depth power point presentation, Ash details every position in the defense. He explains simple terminology for alignments and gap responsibilities of the linemen, run fit concepts for linebackers (Stack, Bow, Boss and 4-Way) and man and zone coverages for the secondary.

Ash uses practice footage to show several drills that are run every day at the beginning of practice. These "defensive openers" emphasize techniques of pursuit, tackling, interception returns, stripping the ball and recovering fumbles.

To complete the package, this DVD includes a bonus PDF that can be accessed on your computer and printed for your personal use. The PDF includes:

    • Descriptions for different kinds of man and zone coverages
    • Terminology for offensive personnel groups
    • A sample defensive play call sheet

    University of Wisconsin Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach;
    2010 Big Ten Co-champions

One of primary objectives of the 4-3 Defense is to stop the run. In this DVD, Chris Ash expands on concepts and player responsibilities to accomplish this objective. He includes nine crucial elements you need to emphasize to stop the run.

Ash teaches two types of eight-man fronts in great detail.

    • Cover 3: A three-deep, four-under zone coverage with safeties rotating to the strong side. It allows you to outnumber your opponent in the box at the point of attack and is adjustable so it can be used against any personnel or formation.
    • Tight Gray: A man free coverage that is ideal for stopping the run. Tight man-to-man coverage with a low hole and deep middle help.
For each front, Ash starts by showing diagrams of the basic fronts versus common offensive formations (lead weak, iso strong, power strong, etc.). He details alignments and responsibilities for linemen, linebackers and the secondary and uses animated diagrams to show how the defense reacts to different types of run plays. He wraps up the discussion of each front by showing several of these run fits in scrimmage footage.

This DVD includes a bonus PDF that can accessed on your computer and printed for your personal use when implementing this defense. This PDF includes all player responsibilities and diagrams discussed and shown in the video.

Pick up the key concepts and coverages you need to shut down the passing game using the 4-3 defense.

Wisconsin contains the pass with man coverages and two types of zone coverages. Match-Up Zones have defenders trying to match up with receivers in tight coverage, reading the release of the ball rather than the quarterback. Peer Zones have defenders working to get to a designated area of the field, focusing on the quarterback and getting great breaks on the ball.

Ash delivers a detailed explanation of two zone coverages.

    • Cover 3: A three-deep, four-under coverage with safeties rotating to the strong side. This flexible coverage is effective against the pass and the run and is adjustable so it can be used against any personnel or formation.
    • Cover 2: A two-deep, five-under coverage with the corners rolled up on the receivers and safeties with half-field coverage. This coverage is very good against a quick passing attack and is solid against perimeter runs.
In discussing each coverage, Ash starts by showing diagrams of the basic formations versus common offensive sets (pro, slot). He details alignments and responsibilities for linemen, linebackers and the secondary and discusses situation-based rules for these positions. He wraps up the discussion of each coverage with game and scrimmage footage showing several examples of the rules in action.

This DVD includes a bonus PDF that can accessed on your computer and printed for your personal use when implementing this defense. This PDF includes all of the player responsibilities and diagrams discussed and shown in the video.

These concepts and coverages delivered a Top 20 defense to Wisconsin in 2010. Now you can incorporate these proven strategies into your program!

    FD-04786A: with Lambert Brown, former Chaska (MN) High School Head Coach;
2013 Missota Conference Champs; 2013 Missota Coach of the Year; led Chaska to the state semi-finals in 2013

Learn how to use tempo, confidence and execution to create an offensive system that puts defenders in conflict. Former Chaska High School (MN) head coach Lambert Brown shares his years of experience in running systems that create problems for defenses. Using the pistol option base, Coach Brown explains how a multi-faceted offense with different schemes can be unified into an identity that creates a competitive advantage.

Coach Brown starts with a detailed overview of his pistol offense. He discusses why he runs the pistol and why he uses the no-huddle tempo in his offense. His reasons include, in part, the ability to run an entire option package from any formation while making it difficult for the defense to make substitutions.

Knowledge is power, and Coach Brown wants to know these things each week when going into a game: Who is the flat defender? Who is the edge defender? Is it the same person? Does the DE crash or box? What is their favorite coverage? Do they roll coverages? What can we take advantage of? Coach Brown shares his "pick-on" packages, which give the offense plays to run against various players (cornerbacks, defensive end, outside backers, inside backers and safeties). This is vital knowledge for any coach who has struggled offensively because of one or two defensive positions.

Coach Brown also shares his successful packaged play, where he calls two plays in one to take advantage of how a defense is weakened by its adjustments to stop certain base plays. Examples of run/pass, pass/draw options are provided in detail to give a better understanding of how to "put a defense in conflict."

See how the pistol allows the option package to run out of any formation, and learn how Coach Brown has built mental toughness and swagger into his players. You'll find these fundamentals and more in this excellent presentation.

    72 minutes. 2015.

Every successful coach needs an inside zone play in the pistol offense in his toolkit. It gives your offense a highly effective, potent inside running attack to offset any defense. Whether you're facing an even or odd defensive front, or if your linemen are covered or uncovered, this approach is critical. In this presentation, Lambert Brown shares the concepts and principles that will allow you to successfully install and employ this effective strategy.

Using PowerPoint slides, Coach Brown discusses the fundamentals, principles and concepts of the inside zone run game from the pistol offense. You'll see proper alignment of the quarterback and fullback as well as reviews of the option offensive principles and the fundamentals for offensive linemen when zone-blocking for the inside zone run.

The strength of this play is evident in its ability to adapt to any offense, including non-traditional zone schemes.

Coach Brown provides fundamental instruction on ball skills required by the quarterback to help him find the read as well as his keys during the meshing point with the fullback. The fullback is taught basic footwork and Coach Brown emphasizes the aiming point. He also focuses on identifying the action that needs to take place after the ball is given to the fullback or kept by the quarterback. He shares practice footage for the backfield drill that helps train the proper alignment and steps of the quarterback and fullback based on physical skill level. He also covers the basic footwork and reading progression needed to effectively run the inside zone from the pistol offense.

Running the football inside usually requires complicated blocking schemes that take several hours to teach. Coach Brown explains blocking concepts against even and odd defensive fronts that can be implemented with minimal coaching. With its simple blocking schemes, the inside zone allows your offensive line to block aggressively, which develops confidence within your entire offensive unit. It also helps your running backs see running lanes.

This presentation gives you sound fundamentals and concepts on the inside zone running attack from the pistol. You'll get an offense that is simple yet flexible enough to block even and odd fronts whether cover or uncovered - all the while giving your team a mechanical advantage and outnumbering your opponent at the point of attack.

Building on years of experience in traditional triple option football, Lambert Brown has created a system that is easy to implement into any offensive scheme. Why the outside zone? Coach Brown gives you several reasons that the outside zone play should be part of your offense. With the outside zone you get:

    • simple rules,
    • three possible points of attacks,
    • the opportunity to make the defense play assignment football,
    • the ability to stretch the defense horizontally, and to open the deep passing play action game,
    • an offense that doesn't require a back with great speed but one that has good feel and vision

Coach Brown emphasizes these points and tells you how they will help your offense.

Discover how his modified zone scheme simplifies the way the players learn it. In this presentation, Coach Brown not only teaches you the base outside zone play, he also shares four variations that protect it and add diversity to the overall scheme:

    • Stretch - a predetermined give to the superback with quarterback booting away
    • Jet Read - quarterback replaces the superback as the inside run man; superback leads on the jet
    • Option - turns into a triple option with the quarterback keeping or giving the jet; the superback becomes the option man with the jet back pitching
    • Speed Option - double option between quarterback and superback attacking the edge

These plays, which are blocked in the outside zone by the line, change the look in the backfield. In turn, this gives you the option of looking very complicated while teaching your players just one play on the line and then having your backs learn different ways to run them.

Coach Brown shows you how to identify defensive fronts using simple, common terminology. The outside zone play is drawn up against multiple fronts, followed by game footage showing how the play should be run.

In addition, Coach Brown provides four variations off of this base play that help protect it, forcing the defense to expand their game plan against this dynamic offense. You'll get an in-depth study of the outside zone and also learn how the stretch, jet, option and speed variations protect the outside zone play and add diversity to the overall scheme.

Any coach who runs the outside zone or is thinking about running it will get a great understanding of the play with this presentation.

Coaches often see the inside run game frustrated by an opponent filling the box with defenders. The spread offense takes defenders out of the box while the veer concept attacks the box. Lambert Brown gives you an easy, step-by-step method to incorporate the zone and veer blocking systems to keep any defense off balance.

Coach Brown begins by breaking down his philosophical approach to this style of offense. You'll learn how his background in a traditional under-center, veer offense evolved into a pistol offense that includes the inside zone play. Learn how to take advantage of your talent even when you may be at a disadvantage.

Using a PowerPoint presentation and game film, Coach Brown covers every technique necessary to marry the two offensive concepts. From quarterback footwork and reads, to offensive line footwork and aiming points, he thoroughly guides you through this transition in a very logical, methodical and step-by-step fashion.

The zone and veer scheme lets you stretch the field and gain a numbers advantage by leaving various positions unblocked.

Coach Brown begins with his slightly modified inside zone run. Then changing only the quarterback's footwork, offensive line aiming points and the superbacks aiming points, he expands his offensive attack by adding a veer component. By doing this he gives the offense a very potent and powerful second set of weapons. This enables you to adapt a proven inside run system and add it to a spread offense.

Coach Brown breaks down the terminology for offensive linemen to execute effectively and confidently at a high tempo. See how blocking schemes are set up against multiple fronts, with an emphasis on how lineman step to attack the different looks they will see.

Included in this presentation are cutups of quarterback drills as well as game film cutups. Coach Brown dissects this offense from the pistol formation, showing how it can attack every gap on the football field.

Get greater results from your run game with this inside zone and veer scheme. The nightmare that you can create for your opponent by utilizing this easy-to-teach hybrid may be exactly what your offense has been needing.

Learn exactly what makes the Gap Read in the Pistol so dangerous!

Using a PowerPoint presentation, Lambert Brown shows you how to combat the common problem of a stacked-box defense against an option offense. Coach Brown's presentation demonstrates how to execute three read-play variations that use misdirection to keep the defense on its heels and take advantage of blitzes and stunts. He emphasizes how these variations are designed to look like other option plays such as inside zone.

Coach Brown begins by explaining his trap game, which is the basis of the gap scheme. Blocking rules for each position are diagrammed and discussed to provide strategies on how to block any defensive front using guard trap, guard trap/tackle pull, and guard trap/wing pull variations.

Coach Brown also covers where he would like to run the ball. First, he looks at running the play to the side where the offense has numbers. Next, he looks at picking on a defensive weakness or the side that has the best blocking angles. The GT and GW Counter are also covered as well as variations for each play that include an option or fly sweep. You can involve many different players in your offense using these variations.

In addition, this presentation is filled with game footage that provides a visual of how the offensive scheme ties together. Coach Brown shares several key coaching points on each play, and points out common mistakes and adjustments that need to be made during the course of a game.

Every spread offense needs a solid passing game. Using a concepts approach to route running, Lambert Brown details his quick sprint out and play action passing game from the pistol formation that's simple to understand but looks complicated when motions and tags are added to it.

You'll learn concept route combinations that an offense can execute using multiple formations. Using a PowerPoint presentation, Coach Brown takes you through each play, explaining receiver rules for both 2x2 and 3x1 formations. He also shows game footage with multiple looks at each play, giving you a visual of how the offensive scheme ties together so you, too, can run the pistol passing game to perfection.

Coach Brown shows the hitch, vertical and snag concepts as well as a play action passing game to marry with the zone running game. Teaching the play out of several formations, he gives an informative and easily understood explanation of the routes (and variations) ran by each receiver and the progression of the quarterback. In the vertical passing attack, a tag creates a shallow crossing concept that gives the offense the ability to make adjustments during the game to take advantage of any offensive mismatch.

The snag concept gives you the ability to hit a quick slant that converts to a stop, a sail route and a bubble. This play is a good option for showing quick for a first down or putting the ball in your best athlete's hands with the bubble. Coach Brown also shares a nice variation with the snag return play.

You'll also learn Coach Brown's numbering system, which provides a fluid, fast-paced passing offense. You'll also see how he calls and executes concepts to coverages. Players are empowered to adjust their routes based on pre- and post-snap looks to expose the holes in the defense. Receivers in this system don't operate in isolation to their route or their side of the field. Instead, they know how their responsibilities in a given concept use space to stretch and expose the defense.

If you're looking for a simple, effective system to expand your passing game this season, Coach Brown meets that goal with his strategies for deep and intermediate routes that stress the defense.

    Why the Pistol Wing-T?
This offense was born out of a need for variety, forcing defenses out of the box and allowing running backs to become a downhill threat; all with very few adjustments to the running backs and offensive line footwork.

    System Overview
With the use of power point, practice and game video, Porterville's offensive system is drawn up and installed with a variety of coaching points. The plays that are shown include: The Buck Sweep Series, Down Series, Belly Series, Guard and Tackle Trap, Midline and Veer Options, Jet Sweep and portions of the passing game.

    Terminology
Player tags and numbers, hole numbers, formations, key words and blocking schemes are all covered in this section. Also included is a segment on how Porterville calls their plays. Simple tags are used to create hundreds of possibilities--a nightmare for the defense. From three backs to empty sets and a "Wildcat" alignment, this offense appears limitless.

    Individual and Group Drills
Learn the key drills used to install and practice his offense. Using chalk talk, power point, practice and game footage, Coach Stewart walks you through well over 60 individual and group drills used to install and train players to run the Pistol Wing-T. The individual segment shows a variety of drills and key coaching points for each offensive position: Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Wide Receivers, and Offensive Line. The group drills incorporate multiple positions and allow the pieces of the offense to come together in a timely fashion. Backfield drills and linemen drills are demonstrated with maximum efficiency to assure quality while maximize repetitions. Each drill is a building block of the Pistol Wing-T Offense.

    Practice Plan
Porterville's offensive practice plan is shown and discussed thoroughly so that anyone wishing to install and run the Pistol Wing-T can do so in a relatively easy manner. A daily plan is outlined and variations and conditioning options are discussed.

If your team is looking to put points on the board, the Pistol Wing-T is definitely something you need to see. This offense will allow you to become more multiple, out flank the defense, make defensive coordinators go out of their mind and put more points on the board.

Rick Stewart has taken the best from the Wing-T and the best from the Pistol and developed a winning combination. He has turned around three high school programs using his system to put defenders in conflict.

In this DVD, Coach Stewart takes you through four phases of his Pistol passing game. He starts with his sprint out passing game, moves to 3-step and 5-step route combinations, and finishes with his play action passing game. All phases of the pass game are covered with whiteboard play diagrams followed by game video of each play.

    Sprint Out Passing Game
Starting with the sprint out passing game, Stewart explains his terminology and diagrams his numbered and tagged passing tree routes. This section of the video also offers pass protection schemes and demonstrates of how to incorporate jet motion into the sprint out package.

3- and 5- Step Route Combinations
The 3-step schemes use the bubble/funnel spread principles that allow you to quickly get the ball to your best athletes on the perimeter. Stewart discusses how to put slot defenders in conflict using the run game and quick 3-step route combinations. The 5-step game puts additional stress on the defense using an easy-to-learn system that includes crossing routes from a variety of positions.

    Play Action
Last but not least, the Pistol play action passing game blends perfectly with traditional Wing-T run and pass principles. As Stewart points out, the traditional Wing-T play action passes are even better from the Pistol due to the longer "ride" on the play action fake. All the best Wing-T play actions are covered, including; Waggle, Belly pass, and Veer and Midline pass plays.

This system will allow your team to stress the defense from sideline-to-sideline, vertically, and in-between the tackles. This is every defensive coordinator's worst nightmare.

Many football programs do not have the size or talent to play smash mouth football. They must out maneuver defenses in simple but effective multi-formation offensive systems.

Using Power Point presentations, game video and practice video, Rick Stewart presents Pistol multi-formations, motion and shift variations, combo play packages, draw & screen plays and his favorite trick plays that will keep your opponents off balance.

    Coach Stewart's instruction covers:

    • How to out-formation any defense to gain a numbers advantage at point of attack.
    • How to use audibles to better attack a defense's weakness when they shift.
    • How to use multi-formations and run similar offensive plays and blocking rules.
    • How to create defensive confusion through offensive shifts and motion to catch the DBs out of position.
    • How to set up a series of plays by using similar shifts, motions, formations to trick the defense into over pursuit.
This DVD has something for everyone and operates under the premise that "the defense can never be right." Even if you are not running the Pistol, Coach Stewart's DVD is a great addition to your coaching library based on the trick plays and screen plays presented.
